[lang_en]TimeWarner and Google Launch Life Magazine Online Photo Archive[/lang_en]

Posted on 18. Nov, 2008 by WebLaunches in Tech News, press release

[lang_en]Search millions of photographs from the LIFE photo archive, stretching from the 1750s to today. Most were never published and are now available for the first time through the joint effort of LIFE and Google.  The images will be free to use for personal and research purposes but will be digitally watermarked to prevent unauthorized or unlicensed commercial uses.  There is an option to purchase each image for commercial use.

According the announcement on the official Google blog,  “Only a very small percentage of these images have ever been published. The rest have been sitting in dusty archives in the form of negatives, slides, glass plates, etchings, and prints. We’re digitizing them so that everyone can easily experience these fascinating moments in time. Today about 20 percent of the collection is online; during the next few months, we will be adding the entire LIFE archive — about 10 million photos.”

The Images are being hosted by Google here.[/lang_en]
